गरज महानगर नियोजन संस्थांची

नुकतीच बातमी वाचण्यात आली की पुण्याच्या आसपासच्या गावांचा समावेश पुणे शहराच्या हद्दीत करण्यात येणार आहे. मागच्या वेळेस झाल्येल्या हद्दवाढीमध्ये समाविष्ट २३  गावांकडे पुणे महानगरपालिकेला लक्ष पुरवता येत नाहीये. मनपा चा विकास आराखडा १९८७ नंतर मंजूर झालेला नाहीये आणि शासन अजून काम मनपा कडे सोपवत आहे. निर्णय चुकीचा की बरोबर या चर्चेमध्ये मला रस नाही पण पुण्यासारखीच परिस्थिती बाकीच्या महानगरपालिकांची आहे. त्यांच्या आजूबाजूला असलेल्या गावांचे झपाट्याने शहरीकरण होत आहे. परंतु ती गावे नागरी सुविधांचा पुरवठा करण्यास मात्र समर्थ ठरत नाहीत.  अशाने वेळ येती त्यांचा समावेश मनपा हद्दीत करायची. आणि मनपा हद्दीत समावेश करूनही त्यांच्यापुढील समस्या काही सुटत नाहीत. या दृष्टीकोनातून विचार केला तर आता शासनाने काही वेगळे करून पाहण्यास हरकत नाही. मुंबई साठी १९७५ पासून मुंबई महानगर प्रदेश विकास प्राधिकरण आहे. एम एम आर डी ए ने मुंबईच्या दळणवळण सुविधांच्या विकासामध्ये महत्वाची भूमिका बजावली आहे. त्याच धरतीवर प्रत्येक महानगरासाठी एक एक  महानगर नियोजन संस्था उभारता येईल. एक मध्यवर्ती संस्था जी शहराबरोबरच आजूबाजूच्या गावांच्या नियोजनासाठी आराखडे बनवेल. कोणतीही दळणवळण योजना या पूर्ण विभागाला कशी लागू करता येईल ते ठरवेल. सुनियोजित नागरीकरणासाठी अशा संस्था आता अत्यावश्यक झाल्या आहेत.

अमेरिकेत १९६२ मध्ये केंद्रीय महामार्ग मदत (Federal - aid highway act) कायद्याअंतर्गत शहरी नियोजन संस्थांची  (Metropolitan Planning Organization MPO) मुहूर्तवेढ रोवली गेली. याअंतर्गत कोणताही नागरी विभाग म्हणजे शहर आणि आसपासचा प्रदेशाची लोकसंख्या ही ५०,००० च्या पुढे गेली की त्या प्रदेशाकरता एक महानगर नियोजन संस्था (Metropolitan planning organization - MPO) स्थापन करणे आवश्यक केले गेले.  या संस्थेच्या बोर्डावर त्या प्रदेशात असलेल्या गावांचे प्रतिनिधित्व असेल.  आणि ही संस्था केंद्रसरकार आणि नगरपालिका, महानगरपालिका, ग्रामपंचयती यांच्यामधला दुवा असेल. प्रत्येक MPO दर पाच वर्षांनी एक भविष्यातील विकासाचा आराखडा  बनवते.  या आराखड्यामध्ये  पुढील २० वर्षांमध्ये मूळ शहराची वाढ आणि आजुबाजूच्या गावांची वाढ कशी होणे अपेक्षित आहे हे समाविष्ट असते. त्याचबरोबर या वाढीमुळे दळवळण सुविधेवर काय परिणाम होणार ते ही पाहिलेले असते. या मध्ये जर खुप वेगाने वाढ दिसते आहे असे दिसले तर मग त्यांच्यावर उपाय म्हणून नविन रेल्वे, रस्ते, बस वगैरे उपक्रम राबवण्याचा आराखडा तयार करण्यात येतो.  आणि आधी सांगितल्याप्रमाणे या आराखड्याचा दर पाच वर्षांनी आढावा घेतला जातो. म्हणजे जर   परिस्थितीमध्ये काही बदल झाले असतील तर वेळीच उपाययोजना करता येतील. जर एखाद्या गावाची वाढ जास्ती दिसते आहे तर त्यानुसार दळणवळणाचे   निर्णय घेता येतात.

भारतात आपल्याला सध्या झपाट्याने शहरीकरण / नागरीकरण होताना दिसते आहे. लोकसंख्या  खेड्यांकडून शहरांकडे धावते आहे आणि हा प्रवाह आता बदलता येण्यासारखा नाही. त्यामुळे  उलट आपण हे नागरीकरण सुलभ व्हावे यासाठी प्रयत्न करायला हवेत. भारतात अजुनही आपण दळणवळण सुविधांचा विकास करण्याचा प्रयत्न करतो  आहोत. त्यामुळे हा योग साधून अशा महानगर नियोजन संस्था  स्थापन केल्या तर जो काही विकास होईल तो बरोबर  दिशेने होईल.  या संस्था प्रत्येक नागरी विभाग  जो १,००,००० लोकसंखेपेक्षा मोठा असेल अशा विभागांमध्ये स्थापन करता येतील. याविभागांमध्ये एक  किंवा अधिक महानगरे आणि त्याचबरोबरीने आसपासची छोटी गावे आणि खेडी  अशा सर्वांचा समावेश असेल.  अशा संस्था स्थापन केल्या तर त्या  छोट्या गावांना तांत्रिक सहाय्य पुरवठा सुद्धा करू शकतात. काही गावांकडे आपला आराखडा बनवण्याकरता उपयुक्त मनुष्यबळ नसते. त्यांना काही उपक्रम माहिती नसतात. अशांना या संस्था मदत करू शकतील. याचवेळेस आपण अमेरिकेत  केलेल्या  चुकांपासून काही शिकण्याचीही गरज आहे. नविन  संशोधनानुसार नुसते  रस्ते बांधून किंवा लेन्स ची संख्या वाढवून ट्रॅफिक कमी होतच नाही. उलट तुम्ही बांधा ते येतील या   गृहितकाने वाहनांची संख्या वाढतच जाते. त्यामुळे ट्रेन्स - बसेस यांसारख्या मास ट्रांझिट सुविधांचा वापर महत्त्वाचा आहे. उगीच रस्ता रूंदीकरण करत बसण्यापेक्षा आपल्या रेल्वे, मेट्रो , चांगली बस / टॅक्सी सिस्टीम उभी करण्याकरता प्रयत्न करणे गरजेचे आहे. त्याचप्रमाणे शहरांची वाढही त्यादृष्टीने पुरक होणे गरजेचे आहे. या संस्था अशी पुरक वाढ करण्यात खचितच मदत करतील.

आता पुण्याचे उदाहरण घेतले तर पुण्याचे स्वरूप अगदी २० वर्षांपूर्वी पाहिले तर अगदी आटोपशीर होते. पुणे  आणि पिंपरी - चिंचवड मध्ये  एक सीमा असल्यासारखी होती. पण आता पुणे कुठे संपले आणि पिंपरी-चिंचवड कुठे सुरू झाले हे कळेनासे झाले आहे. त्यापुढे एका  बाजूला हिंजवाडी  , दुसर्‍याबाजूला  वडगांव धायरी ,   तिसर्‍या बाजूला मगरपट्टा , ते चौथ्या बाजूला वाघोली असा पूर्ण एक मोठा आणि एकसंध महानगर प्रदेश  निर्माण झालेला आहे. पण ही वाढ होत असताना त्याचा ताळमेळ राहिला नाही त्यामुळे पुण्यातून किती लोक हिंजवडीला येजा करतील हे कोणी विचारातच घेतले नाही. आणि आताची हिंजवडीच्या ट्रॅफिकची समस्या निर्माण झाली.  जर अशी महानगर नियोजन संस्था असती  तर तिने हिंजवडी, पुणे आणि पिंपरी-चिंचवड अशा नगरपालिकांना एकत्र   बसवून निर्माण होणार्‍या  वाहतूकीवर  मार्ग काढला असता. जर पुढच्या १० वर्षांमध्ये १५,००० लोक  वाहतूक करणार  आहेत तर आपण नविन बस सुरू करावी  किंवा रेल्वे सुरू करावी आणि लोकांना काही ठिकाणं द्यावीत की तिथे ते आपापली वाहने पार्क करून पुढे हिंजवडीत कामावर येतील. अशा तर्हेचे निर्णय घेता आले असते.

अजूनही वेळ  गेलेली नाही.  अशा समस्या इतर ठिकाणी आणि इतर शहरांमध्ये निर्माण होऊ नयेत  म्हणून महानगर नियोजन संस्थांची गरज आहे!

Because of Baran .. या बरान मुळे

Baran, a great movie by Majid Majidi. I was fond of Bollywood movies but because of Baran I started watching world cinema and it opened a new chapter of movie watching to me. I will always be grateful to Majidi and Baran for this ! 

या बरान मुळे बर्‍याच गोष्टी घडल्या आहेत लाईफ मध्ये. वेगवेगळे पिक्चर्स पहायची सवय यामुळेच लागली. फेस्टिव्हल वारी करायची पण. २ र्या वर्षाला पिफ मध्ये बरान दाखवणार होते त्यामुळे आम्ही आयनॉक्स वर पोचलो. तेव्हा कळले की पिफ चे डेलिगेट व्हावे लागते आणि मग ढिगानी मस्त पिक्चर पहाता येतात. त्यादिवशी "आया हू तो कुछ तो लेके ही जाऊंगा" या गोगो च्या फंड्याने बरान नाही तर "द गुरू" पाहिला 

पण मग नंतरच्या वर्षी पिफ गाजवला. भरपूर पिक्चर पाहिले. पेज ३ चा प्रिमियर पाहिला ई-स्क्वेअर मध्ये पायर्‍यांवर बसून. बंदी घालण्यात आलेला ब्लॅक फायडे पाहिला, बरेच ब्राझिलियन, फ्रेंच, आणि इतर देशांचे चित्रपट पाहिले.

दुसर्या वर्षी आर्काईव्ह्ज मध्ये कागज के फुल आणि साहब,बिबी और गुलाम पाहिला. श्वास आणि साऊथ अफ्रिकेचा यस्टरडे पाहिला. आणि माझ्या जिवनात कोरियन चित्रपट पहायला सुरूवात करून देणारा इनोसंट स्टेप्स पण पाहिला. आम्ही असू लाडके पण पाहिला. डोर चा ओरिजिनल मल्याळी चित्रपट पाहिला ज्यात मान्सुन च्या पावसाला पण एक कॅरॅक्टर आहे. एकाच दिवशी ५ चित्रपट कसे बघता येतात आणि ते वेगवेगळे कसे एंजॉय करता येतात त्याचा शोध लागला.

हे चित्रपटांचे वेड इथे येऊन अजुन वाढले आणि मस्त फोफावले आहे. अजुनही बरेच चित्रपट पहातोच पण या सगळ्याची सुरूवात त्या बरान मुळे झाली 

धिंगाणा बंद Dhingana Closed!!

अखेर ७ वर्षांनंतर धिंगाणा डॉट कॉम बंद झाले. प्रेम दिनाच्या दिवशीच त्यांनी अखेरचा राम राम केला. अनेक मराठी रसिकांचे हक्काचे गाणे ऐकण्याचे ठिकाण बंद झाले. पडद्यामागच्या हालचाली आपल्याला काय माहिती पण स्वप्नील आणि स्नेहल या शिंदे बंधूनी सुरु केलेले आणि भारतात कायदेशीरपणे संगीत ऐकण्याचे हे प्रथम स्थळ होते. 

मला आठवतंय २००७ मध्ये पुण्यात आय टी मध्ये नवीनच भारती झालेले आम्ही मिट कॉन च्या इमारतीत प्रशिक्षण घेत होतो. सगळेच नुकतेच महाविद्यालयातून बाहेर पडलेले, वेगवेगळ्या गावातून आणि राज्यांतून आलेले सगळेच जन तसे संगीताचे चाहते होते. पण आता इकडे कॉलेज सारखे गाणे ऐकणे जमणार नव्हते तेव्हा एका मित्राने धिंगाणा दाखवली आणि मग आमचे रोजचे गाणी ऐकणे सुरु झाले. त्याकाळी जेव्हा टोरांट जोरात होते आणि कायदेशीर असे काही मिळते हे माहिती नव्हते तेव्हा हा गाण्यांचा खजिना हातात पडला आणि आनंद झाला. 

त्यानंतर इकडे एम एस करायला आल्यापासून तर धिंगाणा कायमचा सोबती बनला. आमचा जुन्या गाण्यांचा छंद धिंगाणा निश्चितपणे पूर्ण करायचा. त्यात महत्वाची गोष्ट म्हणजे मराठी गाण्यांचा संग्रह. धिंगाणा मराठी गाण्यांसाठी हक्काचे माहेर घर होते. पुढे पुढे तर बर्याच चित्रपटांच्या यशामध्ये धिंगाणा च्या गाण्यांचा महत्वाचा वाट राहिला आहे. टाईम पास, दुनियादारी, बालक पालक अश्या यशस्वी चित्रपटांचे संगीत सुरुवातीला धिंगाणा वरच प्रकाशित झाले. धिंगाणा चा अजून एक विशेष म्हणजे त्यांचे android आणि आय फोन आप. इतके सुंदर आणि वापरायला सोपे अजून कुठलेच नाही सध्या तरी. 

वाटले होते मराठी चित्रपट आणि त्यांच्या हातात हात घालून धिंगाणा असेच मोठे होतील पण अखेर त्यांनी निरोपच घेतला. अखेरच्या दिवसांत त्याचा टी सिरीज आणि बाकी कंपन्याशी काही वाद सुरु झाला होता आणि नवीन गाणी येणे ही बंद झाले होते. आता कळले ती शेवटची घर घर होती. असा धिंगाणा परत सुरु व्हावा अशी इच्छा तर आहे पाहू काय होतंय ते …                      

Inspiration

Hi all,

Have you ever thought that everything created in this world has some sort of inspiration behind it. There is only pure thing is nature.  All sorts of creations paintings, poems, music - everything is inspired from something. 

But the important part it to find your own inspiration. Get inspired from a person, an art or something from beautiful nature and create your mark. I'm not saying it should be something artistic. Though it can be something in your work or study or daily life, creating the your style is important. Otherwise you will be one of the sheep in the group who follows the leader goat.

The Soul of Bread

Everyday we do things - sometimes we try to win something - sometimes we try to gain something - most of the times we have certain reward or return in our mind from doing that thing...  The soul of bread tells you the story of a baker who understands without any recognition in mind and without any special ingredient - the best bread is made with the sincere heart!

It's been a long time since I wrote my last post but this Taiwanese movie made me! "The Soul of Bread", made in 2012, is a simple story of a small town bakery in Taiwan. Just like their message they make a very pure, down to earth movie. The portrayal of that small town is really picturesque. The town acts as an another actor and takes part in the story. I don't want to go in the detail of the story or describe about it. If you find it, I would recommend you to watch it.

At the end I want recite the master baker's words - he tells that he made the bread only for his wife - putting all his heart in it. His apprentice realizes it and bakes a simple bread but puts his heart in the making - thus the climax.

Well, if we put our heart and sincere efforts in whatever we are doing and just forget about the returns - I guess everything in this world will become the best!
    

तो हसत होता

मी चालत होतो. भोवताली अंधार पडायला सुरुवात झाली होती. दिव्यांची लखलख होती पण हा भाग तसा अंधाराच होत. वातावरणात चांगलाच गारवा होता. थोड्यावेळापूर्वी पडलेल्या पावसामुळे पायवाट ओली होती. अंदाजे मैलावर असलेली प्रकाशाने न्हाहून निघालेली इमारत माझी मंझील होती. तिच्याकडे पाहत कशाचीही परवा न करता मी चालत होतो. 

आजूबाजूला अगदी तुरळक वावर होता. चुकूनच एखादा माझ्यासारखा वाटसरू दिसत होता. जसा जसा उशीर होत होता तसा माझ्या पावलांचा वेग वाढत होता. मोठ्या स्तंभाला मागे टाकून मी आता परावर्तीत तळ्याच्या काठावर आलो होतो. तळ्यामध्ये एका बाजूने स्तंभाचे तर दुसर्या बाजूने इमारतीचे प्रतिबिंब पडले होते. त्या प्रतिबिंबाकडे पाहत मी क्षणभर स्थिरावलो. सभोवती नीरव शांतता भासत होती. गजबजलेल्या रस्त्यांच्या जवळ असूनही या वातावरणात तुमचे मन शांत करणारी जादू होती. या जगावर हुकुमत गाजवणाऱ्या नगरीत इतके शांत ठिकाण असावे याचे मला आश्चर्य वाटले. जर जमीन ओली नसती तर मी तिथेच थोडा वेळ बसलो असतो. आजकाल अशी शांतता फार क्वचितच मिळते. मनात कुठलेही विचार नव्हते. जणू त्या निर्मळ पाण्याने माझ्या मनातले सगळे विचारही कुठे तरी दडवून टाकले होते. 

पण ती इमारत मला परत खुणावत होती. मी पुन्हा चालायला सुरुवात केली. पायऱ्यांवर गर्दी दिसत होती. मी मात्र त्याच्या चेहऱ्यावर लक्ष देवून पुढे चढत होतो. आणि एक क्षण आला. तो भव्य दिव्य पुतळा त्या तळ्याकडे पाहत बसला होता आणि मी त्याच्या समोर उभा होतो. कुठे तरी मला वाटत होते की तो माझ्याकडे पाहून मंद हसतो आहे. त्याचा तो करारी चेहरा सांगत होता जरी तू या जगातील सर्वात शक्तिशाली व्यक्ती झालास तरी तुझ्यासामोरील संकटांच्या रांगा संपायच्या नाहीत आणि या संकटात सुद्धा तू तुझ्या विचारांपासून ढळू नकोस. अशा कठीण समयी तुला नेहमी काही पळवाटा दिसतील. त्या तुला खुणावतील - सोडून दे तुझ्या कल्पना आणि तुझे उद्दिष्ट. पण तुझा निश्चय कठोर कर आणि त्यांना नकार दे. जर तू हे करू शकलास तर खचितच एक परिणामकारक व्यक्तिमत्व होण्याची ताकद तुझ्यात आहे. 

माहिती नाही पण लिंकनला जेव्हा बूथ गोळ्या घालत होता तेव्हा लिंकन नक्कीच मंद हसला असणार - त्याने त्याचे ध्येय स्वतःचे बलिदान देऊन पूर्ण केले होते - अमेरिकेतील एका मोठ्या समाजाला गुलामगिरीतून मुक्त केले होते - आणि या स्वतंत्र देशात खरोखर स्वतंत्रपणे वावरायचा हक्क दिला होता. आज जवळ जवळ दीडशे वर्षांनंतरही त्याचा तो संदेश माझ्यापर्यंत पोहोचला होता आणि माझी पायपीट खरोखर सफल झाल्याचे समाधान मिळाले होते.

Ratatouille - Anyone can cook!!

Going back to roots of my cooking experiences I wonder how fascinating was the time when I was just a kid siting on the kitchen table while my aunt and grandma cooking and watching them cook. Cutting - chopping - washing - heating oil to the right temperature and measure it by cracking of mustered seeds - frying onions and potatoes - adding spices - coriander (cilantro) to garnish. All these things caught my attention when I was young just as Chef' Gusteau's show does the magic on Remy the rat - our hero of the story.

Ratatouille (rat.a.too.ee) is the movie about a rat who is captivated by the magic of cooking and is always doing different experiments for improving the taste and smell. In the initial sequence, in one experiment, for lightning touch he actually uses lightning to cook the cheese. Humor aside but it fortifies his passion about food and cooking. After separation from his family he lands in Gusteau's kitchen where his subordinates are trying to save the sinking ship after his tragic death. Remy befriends with the Linguini and uses him as his pupate to create crowd favorite dish. A dreaded critic Anton Ego visit's the restaurant and Remy serves him Ratatouille which takes him to his mom's kitchen from childhood and astonishes him. After meeting the "little chef" Anton writes his review and praises Remy.

The plot is simple with many more complexities with visual fair experiencing romantic Paris and French food. But the most important message this movie gives "it doesn't matter where are you coming from - you can still be a great artist - if you have the right passion!" . It also tells you to be yourself and not to worry about all the odds coming between you and your mission. Director Brad Bird makes it very clear from his narration and tells you even a small rat can be the finest chef in Paris if he follows his passion. I like this movie because of it's message and also portrayal of great dishes!! I would really suggest if you want to spend some good time - watch this movie - you will definitely have fun!!

Songs: Doors to the memory lane

Have you ever wonder, there are certain cues which take you back to the memory lane - protray the emotions and surrounding in front of your eyes and leaves you with a smile of satisfaction or a lingering sadness !

Songs work as those cues for me and if I'm not wrong for many of you. There are certain songs when I hear them my sole flies back in time. As I remember songs of Mukesh, my father used to listen, and whenever I hear those songs I bacome a small child listening curiously that mesmerizing voice.

As I started growing the Bollywood songs captured me with their charm. Listening songs of Tridev and Hero shows my childhood with my friends and my aunt. The entry of the legend Rahman was a great impact. Songs from Roja take me to a town of Chalisgaon when I was in fourth standard. I see my grandparents, a big tree in front of their house and summer evenings spent under that tree.

Songs of Judwa and Mohabbatein take me on the stage of Drama theatre in Sangamner where I performed in high school annual program. They also show me the practice sessions in evenings and having fun with friends.

I moved to Pune for my engineering studies. And songs of Saathiya take me to my room and sleeping listening to "Chupke se" every night. After college moving to Mumbai was a big change. Still the songs were with me. Song "it's magic" Kareena Kapoor reminds of my friend Vibhor and Akshay is reminded by song "Hey shona" from Tara rum pum.

Song of Delhi 6 takes me to winter nights of Fargo and club songs take me in my lovely car and I remember listening fm y94.

There are other memories and persons attached to songs and they flash in my eyes when I listen those songs. The Most memorable song is the lullabies of my grandma singing "Dev jari maj kadhi bhetala" for me!!

I guess this is time to close your eyes and see if the song is taking you to any place or person. Don't forget to post your experience in comments! !

I hate airports!!

Every time I sit on an airport waiting for my flight or to pick somebody, this comes in my mind, I hate airports. There are many places I love, I like to sit there, I like to observe people. But airports are certainly not in that list.

Railway stations, people are waiting for their trains. But there you see a certain attachment. I don't know why I feel a bliss of love there. The smell of oil, burnt things, diesel, snacks, fruits ... It gives me a sense of care. There is a lot of drama on the railway station, you can see the movie Hugo and imagine such countless stories happening all over the world.

Bus stations are bit distant in nature. Still they take me down my memory lane. Sitting on bust station, waiting for the bus to come and take me to my grandma's house. It feels like you make a bond with everybody sitting around you. It might be a love, hate, curiosity, or just he/she is so ugly bond.

But on airports, I feel I don't belong here. This is some alien land. A way too clean place. No love and everyone is seeing you with suspicion. Nobody cares for the other person and everybody is so engrossed to catch something else in some other city.

But when I see a 50 years old daughter meets her 75 years old father - they hug and go home, I feel actually airports are not that of a bad place. I wonder if this trend continues I may start loving airports too!!

New beginning

Hi all,

I know I promised I will be more regular posting new things but I did not post anything - haha. That's not actually true - I was working on a new idea.

Some of you may have experienced - you get up in the morning and then start humming a song or it happens you are doing some work and in your mind some song is playing... I had same experience many times and I thought why not share these songs - these are nice songs, bad songs, old songs, new songs, Hindi, Marathi, English - from any country doesn't matter! Only criteria behind choosing these songs is that these were stuck in my head for that morning or whole day.

This is the advertisement part and this is third month of the new blog and I now feel that I have enough songs that I should start promote it! So follow the link and follow this blog too. Some years ago in 2004, I was listening a song .. "agar mai kahu" from "Lakshya". Preity says to Hritik - "Is baat ko agar tum zara ghuma fira ke kahate to accha lagata .. " and yesterday I heard, Deepika saying "Zara short me batalao na .. seedhe point pe aao na !!"

Man, I was surprised, is it really the next generation in say 6-7 years ? In old days (2004) girls wanted a guy to propose them without direct words and with some poetic language containing lots of different similes and metaphors but now they want him to just say it .. don't beat around the bush u dumbo !! Or is it just that guys don't understand what girls really like.. May be this is the case. I am always confused about it .. and still am..

Preity doesn't like her to be compared to moon because it also has some spot .. at the end hero is so tired and says I don't know what to say because even if I say something you don't like it .. and after his defeat She is finally ready and says that she also likes him .. Huh .. it's so complicated..

Hmm I will leave this to the girls to explain .. oh both songs have same music directors Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. So enjoy the songs till then bye ..

Coke Studio .. A great way of fusion

I was reading news in Maharashtra times and came across the name "Coke Studio", checked that thing and was surprised to see actually a Music program, a good music program on MTV. Ha ha, yup I just think that MTV is all shows like Jersey Shore from US to Rodies from India. But this was a pleasant surprise ! The main program started in Brazil as Coca cola studio (as stated on Wiki of Coke studio India) but I could not find any links for it .. Leave it .. So the journey started in Brazil and continued to the Pakistan .. Yah it's Coke studio season 4 in Pakistan now.

Mr. Rohail Hyatt produced the Coke studio in Pakistan. It started in 2008 and continuing successfully till date. They started with Strings, Ali Zafar, Ali Azamat and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. These were well known artists but they also added some not so known singers. While the popularity of the program increased, in subsequent seasons they invited Abeeda Parween also. The best singer I found out on this was Arif Lohar.



Producer did some good jam sessions and also gave chance to meet sufi singers with the pop stars and combine the melody. They had a nice house band. They achieved to keep the band on the background and highlight the singing talent. I have to give here some of the great performances.



This great concept acquired in India and started the Coke studio India. Music is directed by Leslie Lewis. You must be knowing him from the Colonial Cousins, his band with Hari Haran. The format is somewhat similar to Pakistani show but changed in sense that Jam sessions are having two or more artists. They are singing folk songs from east, west, south and north. So a Punjabi song is mixed with a Carnatic classical song by Bombay Jayshree. This is a good format as considering wide spread folk music in India. But in many sessions I found out that the music of band was overpowering the singers. If the Leslie could get over it, it's going to be a great effort.

  

Singers, you know are very talented like Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Bombay Jayshree, Shankar Mahadevan, KK, and Kailash Kher. But I liked some of new voices for me: Richa Sharma , Wadali Brothers. So again giving some good songs I wish good luck for Coke studio team and wish that they will provide us more and more great music in future.

Sherlock

Hi all,

Today I am going to write about the personality who doesn't need any introduction. I think you must have read or heard this name at least once in your life, the name is Sherlock Holmes ! The great detective, brainchild of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle residing at 221 B, Baker Street, London. His father published his first story in 1887 and after more than hundred years, he is still alive with his fans and followers.

I guess everybody will be saying we know about this and we have read about it. Recently I came across the British television series from 1984 "Sherlock Holmes" in which actor Jeremy Brett portrayed the legendary detective. And according to me he was very successful in that. I read several stories. Started from my childhood in Marathi and now the original ones on kindle. I think Jeremy Brett has done a marvelous job. He shows the intensity and intelligence of Holmes' character with great details. I would certainly recommend to watch the series which is very close to the narration of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Just one concern that Jeremy sometimes look old for the stories in the early age of Sherlock when he was around 30 years old. Oh one tip - some parts are available on youtube and you can find it on netflix also. Yup buying DVD is a great option too.

Another series I came across was Sherlock. It is kind of rebooting the series what they call with hollywood flicks. But this is a complete new series which takes place in the current London with the Sherlock living in 2010. Authors based their stories on the actual stories of Sherlock Holmes but made them modern. I liked Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock as his age matches with the Sherlock's age. This is a great series. I did not find it on youtute but still watch it. Yup and for UK ppl, it's going to return in the 2011 so you can watch it on BBC.

गाणी मणीरत्नमची (songs from Manirathanam)

नमस्कार!

दिग्दर्शक मणीरत्नम सर्वाना एक सामाजिक आणि वेगळे विषय असणारे चित्रपट काढणारा म्हणून सुपरिचित आहेच. त्याच्या दहशदवादाच्या विषयावरील त्रिमूर्ती तर बहुतेकांनी पाहिली असेल ती म्हणजे रोजा, बॉम्बे (आता चित्रपटाचे नाव हेच होते) आणि दिल से . पण हाच दिग्दर्शक खूप अप्रतिम गाण्यांचे सादरीकरण आपल्या चित्रपटांमध्ये करतो. त्या गाण्यांची अजून एकदा आठवण करून देतो आणि जर कुठली गाणी माहिती नसतील तर अशा आहे की ती आवडतील (नाही आवडली तर सोडून द्या).

सुरवात करू त्याच्या जुन्या चित्रपटांपासून ज्यावेळेस तो हिंदी चित्रपटसृष्टीला माहिती नव्हता. चित्रपट आहे अग्नी नच्चतीरम (१९८८). रेल्वे फलाट आणि प्रत्यक्ष रेल्वेचा सुंदर वापर केलेला आहे या गाण्यामध्ये. अंधार आणि दिवे की जे काही भागच प्रकाशित करत आहेत ते एक वेगळाच अनुभव देऊन जातात. रात्रीची शेवटची लोकल गेली किवा तुम्ही कधी पहिल्या लोकल ची वाट पाहत बसलेले असता तेव्हा जसा दिसेल फलाट तसाच बरोबर चित्रित केलेला आहे. उगीच त्याला भडक करायचा प्रयत्न नाही.

पुढील चित्रपट बहुतेक अनेकांनी त्यांच्या बालपणी पहिला असेल. माझी तरी आठवण आहे. तो आहे अंजली (१९९०). या चित्रपटामध्ये त्यांनी इतक्या लहान मुलांकडून मोठे काम करून घेतले आहे. या एका गाण्यामाध्येच त्याची झलक आपल्याला दिसून येते. एका संकुलामध्ये राहणारी खोड्या करणारी मुले आणि ती काही नादान नाहीत - त्यांना सगळे माहिती आहे काय चालू आहे ते.

आता पर्यंत तो इलैराजा बरोबर काम करत होता. पण १९९२ मध्ये त्यांनी ठरवले एका नवीन संगीतकाराला संधी देऊ. आणि त्यांनी जगापुढे आणला ऑस्कर विजेता ए. आर. रहमान. चित्रपट होता रोजा. काश्मीर च्या बर्फाळ पर्वतांमध्ये नुकतेच लग्न झालेले जोडपे दहशदवादाला न घाबरता प्रेमात दंग आहेत याचे सुरेख चित्रीकरण ये हसीन वादीया या गाण्यात येते. तशी या चित्रपटातील सगळीच गाणी एका पेक्षा एक आहेत.

बॉम्बे (१९९५) त्याकाळी अत्यंत वादग्रस्त ठरलेला चित्रपट. मला आठवतंय चित्रपटगृहाबाहेर पोलिसांचा पहारा आणि रात्री गेलो म्हणून बरोबर घेतलेली विजेरी सुद्धा उघडून पाहिली होती. तर या चित्रपटामाधीलाही गाणी आठवणीत रहावीत अशी आहेत. केहेनही क्या ! मध्ये त्याला पहिल्यांदाच पाहून काळजीत पडलेली मनीषा की हा आपल्याला का आवडला तिला कळत नाहीये की काय करू आणि काय बोलू. पण चित्रीकरणासाठी उत्कृष्ट गाणे म्हणजे तुही रे. ती पावसाळी हवा - वादळाला सुरुवात होणार आहे अश्या वाटणाऱ्या समुद्रातल्या लाटा - मनीषाची तगमग आणि अरविंद स्वामी चे वाट पाहणे. अप्रतिम !

लोकांना फार न आवडलेला चित्रपट म्हणजे दिल से (१९९८). बहुतेक लोकांना तो झेपला नाही किवा शेवटी शहरूक आणि मनीषा दोघेही मारतात हे त्यांना आवडले नाही. त्यातील छैया छैया वर तर सगळेच जण नाचले पण धगधगत्या गावाच्या पार्श्वभूमीवर फुलणारे प्रेम दाखवणारे दिल से रे म्हणजे कळस. आता शहरूकनी त्याची स्टाइल मारली आहे असे म्हणून नका. पण पुन्हा एकदा दडपण धूडकावाणारी लहान मुले मणीरत्नमची समज दाखवून जातात. हा आता माझे आवडते गाणे मात्र जिया जले आहे. केरळची पार्श्वभूमी आणि हत्तींबरोबर नाच.



साथिया नावाचा चित्रपट बर्याच लोकांना आठवत असेल. तो बनवला होता मणीरत्नमच्या सहायकांनी. मणी नी तो आधीच २००० मध्ये दक्षिणेत अलाई पयुथे म्हणून बनवला होता. माधवन जो आता हिंदी मधेही खूप दिसतो, तो त्यावेळेस तिकडचा हीट तारा होता. तर साथिया साथिया गाणे बरेच प्रसिद्ध झाले होते आणि बर्याच नोकिया ची ती रिंग टोन (मराठी शब्द काय ?) होती. ते आपल्या रहमान नी पचाई निरमे म्हणून बनवले होते. रंगांचा वापर पहायचा तर तो इथे. हिरवा, लाल, पिवळा, निळा आणि पांढरा अप्रतिम रंगसंगती साधली आहे. त्याच्या निम्मी ही शाद अली ला साधता आली नाही. या गाण्यात २:५२ ला माझा आवडता कॅमेरा चा उपयोग आहे.


अजून एका गाण्याची ओळख करून देतो शेवटी. चित्रपट आहे युवा (२००४). यात तरुणाई चा जोश दाखवणारे धका लागे बुक्का हे मस्त गाणे आहे. पण आजकालच्या तरुणाई ची क्लब मध्ये जाऊन नाचण्याची आवड आणि व्यक्तिरेखांची ओळख दाखवणारे फन्ना.

Revisiting Julie and Julia

Hi,

May be some of you remember in the month of November 2009 I wrote about the movie Julie and Julia (really I also forgot exactly when did I write about it but then some searching gave me exact month). So like 15 days back I was roaming in the library (please don't think I am so studious, I was waiting for my friend to come out of a class and meet other girls). Suddenly I saw one shelf where they were having books which made it in to movie or any TV drama. The first shot was Dracula by Barm Stoker. I want to read that thing since I was kid but now with many Dracula films under my belt and read one translation I was still looking around. And it caught my eyes - "Julie and Julia - my years of cooking Dangerously " . I just checked it out and took it to home to read.

Due date for the book was 2 March so I was going slow. Not like my regular attempt to finish a book in a night. But then suddenly somebody recalled it and I got new due date - Feb 16. And now I write with success of completing the book.

Yup, so this book is like a memoir of Julie Powel who started this Julie/Julia project. She's a 29 years old secretary in NYC, doing just every day work and getting depressed for not doing anything different or attractive or something like that. So she needs something to keep motivating and she finds the book of Julia Child and decides to cook its 524 recipes in 365 days. Her book talks about her cooking experiments which she says were dangerous. Yah and they sound dangerous, even in US its not usual to say that I cooked bone-marrow cutting the bone in the home or I boned the whole duck and don't forget about the measurements of butter like three quarter pounds. I have never seen to measure butter in recipe in pounds. They are dangerous.

So not going in the details of the story, lets see the writing style (wow, this is my first book review haha, I am not a good writer). She writes her first book. And it is like a blog. It consists of small chapters which come with emails, blog posts, comments from readers and her time in her office and kitchen. Some parts you feel funny, but I did not think that this was that LOL book as mentioned in the cover. May be conceptions of LOL are different for me.

If you want to compare the movie and book, I feel Norah had portrayed a subtle Julie, where in the books she shows herself as a lunatic (I don't know if it suites or not but I don't care). She says she used F word often and her language is not gentle as you can see it in her blog too.

After reading old post, my friend was thinking of going to French Restaurant but he did not find one. Actually I also looked around but could not find one. Need to look at some better places.

So I can say if you are fan of cooking, eating or if you are thinking that your life is boring you will get something in this book. So search for it and don't be surprised with the language - you can say may be PG-13.

The journey of a Song

Hi All,

With a biiiiiig gap .. I am back !

This will be a small post with lot of songs. They talk about remix, remake, inspiration and stolen songs all the time. One of the songs I was listening these days is "La La La " from singer Auburn. (She is from Minneapolis !!). Okay .. I was wiking (now I feel they should add this with googling) that song and I found it was a version of the other song from German Europop band ATC ( A touch of Class). I searched that song and found that it is not their song but it came from a Russian original song "Pesenka (La La La)". Now I got confused that what's going on and I found out that there are more two versions of this song one from Girlicious " 2 in the morning". They just sampled "La La La" and the other from beFour (again German) "Magic Melodies". So I thought I can share a journey of a song chronologically with you.

First comes the original Russian "Pesenka (La La La)" 1998

Wow so many songs .. and so many versions.

Yah, I don't want to get in to fighting about the original and stolen or inspiration - hmm this can be a method to introduce a nice tune, song, idea, film to the other world. As we say in academic world references should be perfect so they wont tell you that its a plagiarism.

I am thinking of writing about Europop. That was the with which we were introduced to the English music and later found out those guys were not from US or UK. But that will be a separate post.

Sau Gram Zindagi..

The song starts with portrayal of the zindagi - the life as a hot and sweet mixture. And then comes the punch line - sau gram zindagi, sambhal ke kharchi hai - (I) have used this small/short/comparable to mere 100 grams - life - very carefully. This life is true, this life is false but still (I) have used this life very carefully.

(I) have boiled (the life) and poured in the cup - it is bitter, like fate, just want a spoon of sugar.

Life is too short, if you just want to cry. It's a tailor, a craftsman who crafts your happiness with the help of different colored strings.

Really sometimes some songs can make you think about your life. If considered that the average lifespan of 60 years or 70 years, is it really important what you have achieved at the end ? How much money you have ? I feel the other way, this is very small life and (we) have to LIVE (our) life. It doesn't matter how much money you have or you are the big boss at any company - the important part is, if at the end you can say I have lived my life and lived it carefully - saw the Things in the world - experienced the diversity - went through many bad patches, still enjoying every moment at the same time.

So at the end, just try to make the life more meaningful and say sau gram zindagi, sambhal ke kharchi hai....

I Dreamed a Dream ...

Hi,

I was stunned today morning as I watched a video. It was a video about a 48 years lady, on Britain's got talent. Audience were laughing on her appearance, but she started singing and with her first note she conquered them. And rest was history. She was saying, she had a dream to be a successful singer and now she's the best selling singer. Her debut album I Dreamed a dream was number one and was the largest selling Physical album for 2009. She is Susan Boyle.

Her success gives courage to everybody that no matter how old are you or how you appear, if you have a dream and you tried, at the end you can make that dream come true. Oh, yah, she even got chance to sing a duet with her idol. Standing ovation to Susan.
