Sau Gram Zindagi..

The song starts with portrayal of the zindagi - the life as a hot and sweet mixture. And then comes the punch line - sau gram zindagi, sambhal ke kharchi hai - (I) have used this small/short/comparable to mere 100 grams - life - very carefully. This life is true, this life is false but still (I) have used this life very carefully.

(I) have boiled (the life) and poured in the cup - it is bitter, like fate, just want a spoon of sugar.

Life is too short, if you just want to cry. It's a tailor, a craftsman who crafts your happiness with the help of different colored strings.

Really sometimes some songs can make you think about your life. If considered that the average lifespan of 60 years or 70 years, is it really important what you have achieved at the end ? How much money you have ? I feel the other way, this is very small life and (we) have to LIVE (our) life. It doesn't matter how much money you have or you are the big boss at any company - the important part is, if at the end you can say I have lived my life and lived it carefully - saw the Things in the world - experienced the diversity - went through many bad patches, still enjoying every moment at the same time.

So at the end, just try to make the life more meaningful and say sau gram zindagi, sambhal ke kharchi hai....

I Dreamed a Dream ...

Hi,

I was stunned today morning as I watched a video. It was a video about a 48 years lady, on Britain's got talent. Audience were laughing on her appearance, but she started singing and with her first note she conquered them. And rest was history. She was saying, she had a dream to be a successful singer and now she's the best selling singer. Her debut album I Dreamed a dream was number one and was the largest selling Physical album for 2009. She is Susan Boyle.

Her success gives courage to everybody that no matter how old are you or how you appear, if you have a dream and you tried, at the end you can make that dream come true. Oh, yah, she even got chance to sing a duet with her idol. Standing ovation to Susan.

You can watch her performance on the following link on youtube. I am certain that you will be stunned too.

Talk to you soon, till then, have a good time swimming in the voice of Susan, and dreaming about your dream.

US - China - India: Perspective of an Admiral and a Businessman

Hi All,

Last week we had opportunity to hear the views of a US admiral and now an executive William “Bill” Owens. He served as Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff so his opinions are important. I normally do not write about politics but sometimes it’s a different story.

He started his education in North Dakota and graduated from Naval Academy. He joined navy and reached to the post of Admiral. During this time he served as Vietnam veteran and was onboard of a nuclear submarine. After retiring from the service in 1996, he carried forward as an executive and served many boards of companies including Nortel, Teledesic and Wipro.

So – according to him, 6 most important countries US should be looking for are China, Pakistan, India, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. So Saudi is important for oil, everybody knows. Turkey has been an ally of US for long time and it has undisputable geographic location at the border of Asia and Europe. China – no need to explain as you can see most of the items in the local Wall-mart coming from China. Pakistan is an important player. If the Pak government is stable and people are in better situation, help to world terror will greatly reduce. India, marching in the information technology industry as China is manufacturing hub of the world India is service center hub.

He says, China is through with the communist walls and is going for the socialist country. Government leaders are high achievers in their fields and then they get chance to rule in the party and as a city mayor or any other position. So China is going for the Meritocracy – if you have merit you can get chance to lead. This is helping China in development of the structure. Biggest middle class of the world lives in the China but still the crack between rich - middle class and poor people is widening and it is not a good sign. Also most of the development China is experiencing is in the West part – so it is a big challenge in front of leaders to make sure this prosperity reaches to the poor from the east. He does not see Chinese new rich people have any feeling towards the poor – as they are enjoying their wealth, they do not think about their poor countrymen.

For this part he praised Indian businessmen like Azim Premji and Ratan Tata, who is trying to help their fellow countrymen to reach from poor to middle class. But he thinks that the biggest problem India is facing is still politics as you have to get so many permissions before opening a plant or company. The second important thing he mentions that India is not much progressing in the Manufacturing industries – and if you want to add jobs, manufacturing sector is the most important one…

To conclude he says it is time for US to be a great Partner and not a power as China is approaching and India is also there …

Fargo Ganeshotsav

Hi All,

It's the season of festivals in India and the most awaited festival in the state of Maharashtra is Ganeshotsav .. celebration of Lord Ganesh for 10 days. For these 10 days everybody offers prayers to the Ganesh. And prayers are just the beginning there is lot more happening around - procession, dance, music, drawing and many other competitions for children and stage that gives some message to the community.

As miles away from the homeland, Indian community in the Fargo, ND decided to recreate the festive atmosphere on the Fargo streets and started Ganeshotsav. Started as a small event in the house of Mr. and Mrs. Vaidya in the year 2000 now it has became a big event on the Indian calendar in Fargo.

This year a next step taken as festival committee decided to held a small procession on the downtown streets in Fargo. It was wonderful experience to see sari clad beautiful women and men in kurtas in the morning, playing a traditional marathi musical instrument, Lezim. It made me remember my school days when I used to take part in the procession and played lezim. The way of procession was around 4 - 5 blocks and even people from other cultures were present to greet it. Yah, and mayors from all the 3 cities, Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo were the invite
es for the event.

For you guys I am uploading some of the pics of the event. These are taken from my cell phone camera so not of so good quality but its ok in small size ...

People on the street.

Railroads in Carolinas ..

Hi all,

Today I will introduce you with two different railroads in the states of North and South Carolina, USA. First is the commuter railroad of 21st century - proposed solution for the traffic congestion in Charlotte area in North Carolina - a light railroad system: Lynx. While the other one is the historic freight railroad in the South Carolina - started in 1896 and survived all odds and still in business in the era of big class one railroads -Lancaster & Chester railroad.

Starting with the Lynx:
This service starts from the I-485/South Boulevard. This photo depicts train coming to this last station.

Next photo shows the route of lynx from I-485 to 7th street which is station in the downtown.

Representation of the current and next station - a very useful service often found in m
ost of the commuter rails in all over the world.

Bike holders - just hang your bike till you are in the rail then ride them to your destination.

Signal system at the 7th street. Signals are present at the ground level.

Let us move on to L&C - Lancaster & Chester starting with the aerial view of the railroad mounted on the office wall in Lancaster, SC. This is one of the best way to keep track of your railroad.

Model of the old L&C car in museum.

One of the two cars which are restored for the vacation travel.

Track is not so straight and also not tangent - old railroad when they did not consider grade or curve resistance ...

Lunch on the rail - executive lunch made by special chef ...

Switches for the industry:

Finally two engines.

Bye bye Charlotte ... !

Luv stories - KJo - Hate

Hahaha , Hi all,

Oh .. I am still laughing thinking what a Punit Malahotra must be thinking now ...!! I think if you are a bollywood fan, you must have guessed the subject of the post from the title. And you are thinking who is this Punit Malahotra - ok - now it's not a post about any suspense movie so without much introduction our movie this time is I hate luv storys and the director is - yah you guessed it right now - Punit Malahotra.

One probability (oh this word reminds me about my studies) - he would be crazy fan of KJo movies or he is just like the hero in the movie Jay - but at the end because of the producer's choice - he changed his hatred in the Luv and as many cheeky love (not Luv) stories (not storys) end on the box office he got the success.

I think but he is the second type guy - because even when he is showing Jay is in love, he still manages to spoof all the Ghisa pita formulas in the bollywood love stories. Yah and he gives chance to Kunal (Jay's friend) also.

Oh, btw, if you want to see a good love story with all different setting you should watch Telugu film Jayam. But we will talk about that later because this is about how I hate love stories.

Let us hope that the trend will continue and someday we will land with the film that will be perfect without Red roses, airport climax, crying of lovers, first hatred then realization of love and any love story - hope to see this kind of film soon ...

Till then - I hate love stories ( DDLJ, KKHH, HAHK, HDDSC are my favorite movies :P).

Autobahn

Hi all,

Look at this sign carefully ... I guarantee, you will think of being at the place where this sign exists in reality...

Yes .. some of my drive-crazy friends might be knowing - this sign you will find on German Autobahns; the roads which inspired President Eisenhower to build largest interstate network in US.

History of autobahns starts before World war II, but it actually fueled the growth of autobahn system. After WWII they did not stop to grow and now they are spread across Germany for more than 12,000 kilometers that counts third in the world after US and China.

If you are familiar with the US interstate network - autobahns are similar with some additional features like fuel stations at every approx. 55 kms. Yah - it is illegal to stop on autobahn - even if you are out of fuel - you will be fined.

Now the most fascinating part starts - speed limit. And you will be stunned to know that there is no speed limit on the larger part of autobahns. Yes - No Speed Limit and the sign at the start of the post is used to suggest that End of All Restrictions. You can drive as fast as your vehicle permits ... Still there are some rules for driving as you can not drive through left lane if right lane is free and you have to complete your overtake as soon as possible - even if you are driving on 120 mph you might find a BMW or Porsche coming from behind with 160 or more ... Now thats the thing ...

Even if there are no speed limit - an advisory speed limit is given and if you involve in an accident when you are above those speed limit and although its not your fault you may get some fine. Be careful from Autobahnpolizei.

Some good snaps from web as I am still waiting to visit Autobahn:

So what are you thinking about .... don't think just get a BMW and drive straight towards a sign of :

New Dawn for Marathi Movies

Hello and Namaskar,

Yup - Continuing with my previous post which was in Marathi - now its time to write something in English so that my friends who do not understand Marathi (there is no Google translator Marathi-English) can feel this New Dawn for Marathi movies.

You can say it started with Shwaas and story continues. That was first time Marathi movie was competing for Academy awards for best foreign films and received National Award. And I am saying this is new dawn because this year also India's official entry for Oscars was Marathi movie "Harishchandrachi Factory". Though its out of competition but still its a recognition on the world cinema level for Marathi movies. This list continues with January released movies like Natarang, Jagva, Shikshanachya Aai cha gho.. and Zenda. Its very rare time when you can see
such variety of movies with such different subjects releasing back to back.

I feel i should talk about all of them - I don't know whether I can write or not - but let's try. Start with Natarang - intense story of an Tamasha (drama) actor. He starts his work wi
th the role of "Nachya" - one who acts like lady. The story flows with his rise - fall and again rise. Every actor acts very nicely and director is successful in shooting village life of Maharashtra in 1960's-70's. This was challenging role for Atul Kulkarni and he does it perfectly.

While talking about challenging roles you should mention Upendra Limaye - national award winner for Jogva. This is story about persons who are left for worshiping god with no other life of their own will. This is again tough subject to make a film about love story between Jagata and Jagatin but direc
tor Rajiv Patil exceeds exceptions and delivers a great film. Not to forget about Upendra - as he wears saree in whole film and acts brilliantly - deserves National Award.

Shikshanachya Aai cha gho.. heart touching story of father who wants his son to concentrate on studies and after one incidence changes his stance against todays teaching process. Yah we have seen this many times as recently in Hindi in "3 idiots" but still its a good thing to do rather than making some mindless comedy and wasting Bharat Jadav.

Yup, and coming again in this post also Zenda. A movie about party workers or you can say youth of Maharashtra who are in dilemma to choose their leader. Every where they are finding same situation - finally leaders are winners and common party member is looser. This is bold attempt to open eyes of youth and tell them to see and think ...
Still there are many movies not to forget Gandh and many more - so I hope one day there will be lots of Indian and International fans who will tell me that they watch Marathi movies and they like it ... !!!

Nostalgic 2 ...

Hi all,

Yup, again with nostalgic term ... but this time different form of entertainment: movies. Actually this is not a movie that was made in our era - actually it is a old one - made in 1967 - producer was evergreen Dev Anand, director was legendary Vijay Anand and music was composed by Super Boss S. D. (yup Boss's father - now don't ask "boss koun tha maloom hai kya").

Every song of this movie was hit - Kishor, Rafi, Lata and Asha - everyone rocked and still rock ! As following tradition of previous post I am giving you guys som
e more hints. "yeh dil na hota bechara", "rula ke gaya sapana mera", "Aasaman ke niche", "Baithe hai kya uske paas", yup, "raat akeli hai" , " dil pukare - aa re aa re" and to name last ," Hoton pe aisi baat". Ha ha - I think there is no need of further hints to all the Hindi movie lovers - they must have guessed the film. For those still not getting it - there is Ashok Kumar - think a movie of Ashok Kumar with Dev Anand.

Screenplay of Vijay Anand, which doesn't give you single moment to think and the suspense with twist, and finally climax in Sikkim. It's Jewel Thief, classic Dev Anand, Vyjayanthimala, Ashok Kumar and supporting Tanuja with Helen. I can't say at that time what was more hit ... but I like all the things songs, story, screenplay and acting on Ashok Kumar.

I think even if you don't understand Hindi, you should watch it once - yup there should be all subtitled prints of Hindi classic available - I think this is different post topic - but yes you should watch it !

Yah, and the new thing from Indian history I just recognized, thanks to the movie, Sikkim was not part of Indian union until 1975. This was a new thing for me. We learned till Hyderabad and Goa freedom struggle but this thing was never mentioned in any book - this gives support to my opinion that they should teach us complete history till the year in which you are studying ....

These topics we will discuss later - till then watch Jewel Thief. Enjoy !!!
