Look at this sign carefully ... I guarantee, you will think of being at the place where this sign exists in reality...
Yes .. some of my drive-crazy friends might be knowing - this sign you will find on German Autobahns; the roads which inspired President Eisenhower to build largest interstate network in US.
History of autobahns starts before World war II, but it actually fueled the growth of autobahn system. After WWII they did not stop to grow and now they are spread across Germany for more than 12,000 kilometers that counts third in the world after US and China.
If you are familiar with the US interstate network - autobahns are similar with some additional features like fuel stations at every approx. 55 kms. Yah - it is illegal to stop on autobahn - even if you are out of fuel - you will be fined.
Now the most fascinating part starts - speed limit. And you will be stunned to know that there is no speed limit on the larger part of autobahns. Yes - No Speed Limit and the sign at the start of the post is used to suggest that End of All Restrictions. You can drive as fast as your vehicle permits ... Still there are some rules for driving as you can not drive through left lane if right lane is free and you have to complete your overtake as soon as possible - even if you are driving on 120 mph you might find a BMW or Porsche coming from behind with 160 or more ... Now thats the thing ...
Even if there are no speed limit - an advisory speed limit is given and if you involve in an accident when you are above those speed limit and although its not your fault you may get some fine. Be careful from Autobahnpolizei.
Some good snaps from web as I am still waiting to visit Autobahn:
